Duo No. 2 for Violin and Double Bass, Zhang Song, was written for our first residency at the China Conservatory, Beijing, in 2008. It is an homage to the Zhang family and all the wonderful friends, colleagues and students we have met there through the bridge that the Zhangs provided, which began with Daxun Zhang a number of years ago. In a greater sense, the piece reflects the connection between people and cultures that music seems so able to provide.
