While this recording may be led by a bass player, it is definitely not a bass record. It reflects all of the influences that have shaped Jimmy Masters' music over the last 30 years. From straight-ahead acoustic jazz to spacial, odd-meters to the wonderful combination of spoken word and acoustic bass together, to the world of the contemporary singer/songwriters, this recording is intended to tell a story from the first song to the last. Beginning with a relaxed Latin groove and a dynamic quintet performance, and ending with a deep, pensive piano/bass duo performing an Elizabethan-era love song played in the style of a beautiful church spiritual, this album takes you through a lifetime of music. The performances are stellar and the musicianship is of the highest caliber. The recording quality and sonic resonance and clarity shows a particular attention to detail in the production of the music as well. Overall a first class effort from a seasoned artist.

All songs by Jimmy Masters except *The Storm (Mary Lou Osterhous) & The Water is Wide (Traditional). Musicians are: JC Kuhl: tenor & soprano saxophone; Eddie Williams: tenor saxophone (#2 & 8); Justin Kauflin: acoustic piano, electric piano (#1 & 6), organ (#9); John Toomey: acoustic piano (#1, 6 & 9); Joe Locke: vibraphone (#2, 7 & 8); Trey Pollard: electric guitar (#2,7 & 8); Mary Lou Osterhous: acoustic guitar, vocals (#7); Bill Gurley: mandocello (#7); Jimmy Masters: acoustic bass; Brian Jones: drums.
