George Onslow: String Quintet in G Minor Op. 67 No. 26
George Onslow (1784-1853) was a French composer of English descent. His principal output was chamber music, but he also wrote four symphonies and four operas. His string quintets were originally written for cello, but the composer was so taken by Dragonetti’s interpretations of them that he always included a bass part. These new ISB Editions, edited by double bassist Matthew Baker, were inspired by his recording project of Onslow’s string quintets on the Naxos label featuring his ensemble, the Elan Quintet. Matthew has donated proceeds from sales to the International Society of Bassists.
