Frank Proto: Concerto No. 2 for Double Bass and Orchestra
Concerto No. 2
for Double Bass and Orchestra was commissioned for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra by Marion Rawson. It is dedicated to her memory and also to Francois Rabbath. Written in 1982, Proto includes both swung and improvised sections within the orchestral accompaniment.
"I ended up writing a showpiece for orchestra as well as soloist. I don't like to have the orchestra just sitting there making an occasional peep here and pop there. If you write a piece for orchestra, I believe that you ought to use it. Of course, when the solo instrument is soft, as the bass is, you have a problem of balance. So I decided to ask for the bass to be amplified. We live in an age of electronic technology, so why not take advantage of it." - Frank Proto
A Piano Solo Tuning part is available but it does NOT include an additional bass part. To view this product, click HERE
