Nick, Nicholas, and Greg first began playing music together in the fall of 2012 as faculty members at Ithaca College. While an academic environment offers many advantages for exploring the content of social music, it does not provide a context. So in 2015, to grow as individuals and as a trio - to enable the music itself to self-actualize - they approached the bar manager at Argos Inn, a boutique hotel in Ithaca, NY about a regular Wednesday happy-hour engagement. Over three years of weekly performances at the Argos, these evenings grew into a special community experience, an intersection of many facets of our lives: local artists' work the walls, the Silo Food Truck parks outside, and the Argos cocktail alchemists mix their magic behind the bar, sharing with academics, professionals, students, children, tourists, and strangers at the Inn this spontaneous music of life. Over the years, this Ithaca trio, i3º (pronounced “thirteen degrees”), has shared the every-day minutiae of life to the transformative moments that stay with us; birthdays, engagements, marriages, births, memorials, promotions, retirements, elections, family reunions, and all manner of life events in all seasons. When word that Nick Weiser was taking a new academic position some hours away and this weekly engagement might come to a close, members of our “congregation” decided that some of the spirit and energy of these evenings ought to be documented in recordings. The CDs in your hand are artifacts of a collection of evenings from the summer of 2017, replete with all the feel and sound of Bar Argos; background noise gives the listener the experience of enjoying a cocktail at the bar a few feet from the acoustic trio.
